Inhalte

Note: This course will be in English.

The focus of the course will be on the introduction of project management tools commonly used in development projects. Through active participation and by applying those tools to real life case studies, students will gain an understanding of the following areas:
(1) A general overview of international development cooperation from a practical project management perspective including definitions, objectives and the sustainable development goals
(2) Understanding different types of development projects and being able to go through key steps in the planning and preparations of a development project including the problem definition, stakeholder analysis, risk and environmental analysis, SWOT analysis, applying decision and strategy making tools, as well as the basics of indicator development and monitoring and evaluation.

The course will place a strong emphasis on practical application of the introduced tools. Students will work in groups on realistic case studies to practice the planning of development projects. The results of the group work will be presented and participants will discuss each groups’ output as part of a panel discussion to practice their critical reflection and peer-learning skills.

Evaluation criteria (Leistungsbewertung):

• Participation in class/Presentations
