UNESCO Chair at international conference in Mantua

Mantua / Italy, 01.10.23 - The UNESCO Chair on Historic Urban Landscapes and Heritage Impact Assessments, located at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences in the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Department of Architectural Heritage Conservation had the privilege of participating and presenting its experiences at the Protecting Historic Cities and Landscapes: Compatible Design for New Interventions conference. The conference held in Mantua, Italy, from September 28th to 29th, 2023 at the UNESCO Chair in Architectural Preservation and Planning in World Heritage Cities in the Mantova Campus of Politecnico di Milan. During this thought-provoking two-day event, we engaged in fruitful discussions regarding the planning of urban heritage, as well as the exploration of innovative approaches to conservation and design within historic cities.

Our UNESCO Chair's input proved to be highly pertinent in the context of addressing the challenges associated with urban development in relation to heritage conservation and regeneration. We presented case studies, impact assessments and solutions that demonstrate effective strategies for responding to increasing pressures for change in historic environments. In turn, we are excited about using the knowledge and network acquired during the conference at our UNESCO Chair on Historic Urban Landscape and Heritage Impact Assessment. These resources will enhance our commitment to safeguarding historic cities and cultural landscapes through compatible interventions.
