What is it about?

Starting Wintersemester 2026/2027

Environmental engineers shape the environment and climate of tomorrow. They have sound technical expertise and knowledge of business administration and environmental law. They also have excellent social skills, allowing them to play a key role at the interface between technology and the environment.

Our bachelor's degree program in Applied Engineering Sciences with the Environmental Engineering specialization provides you with both a solid foundational education and the skills to take this further. As part of the supplementary study options (elective courses), you’ll be able to choose modules in other areas – for example, renewable energies, AI, and environmental management with an industrial engineering focus.

At our university, you’ll study in small groups with excellent contact to lecturers – and be close to exciting research in areas such as sustainability, climate protection, and biodiversity.

What can I do with it?

You’ll be an expert for sustainability and the environment – the challenges of the future. The Environmental Engineering program covers a broad range of subjects, allowing graduates to work across the entire range of environmental engineering fields, such as in the following areas:

  • Waste treatment
  • Industrial environmental protection
  • Ecotoxicology
  • Renewable energies
  • Environmental management
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Water treatment

Environmental Engineering as a Dual, Practice-Integrated Program

Theory alone isn't your thing? In the practice-integrated track, you'll work at a partner company. You'll gain practical experience and earn your own money.

Time4ing Program Option — Study at Your Own Pace

With the flexible Time4ing option, you can spread the courses from the first three semesters over five semesters. This means you’ll have fewer subjects and examinations per semester during this phase. This gives you more time to focus on important foundational courses such as mathematics, physics, and Computer Science. You’ll also benefit from an extended BAfög funding period.
