What is it about?

Our Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (M. Eng.) combines well-founded engineering fundamentals with innovative applications and the latest management methods. You’ll broaden your knowledge, develop professionally and personally, and prepare specifically to take on leadership tasks. The degree program will give you the opportunity to choose one of four focuses: Vehicle Development, Energy Technology, Production Planning or Mechatronics.

During your studies, you’ll gain skills in many areas:

  • In-depth knowledge of technical mechanics (dynamics, oscillations and acoustics) and software engineering.
  • Key management skills (innovation management, entrepreneurship, staff management, project management).
  • Specialized knowledge of vehicle development, for example in light-metal engineering, simulation and the development of vehicle-specific systems.
  • Energy technology know-how – from thermal and electric energy conversion to the mechanics of fluids.
  • Production planning methods, with a focus on current topics such as the Internet of Things, Digital Twins, the Industrial Metaverse and virtual factories. You’ll also deal with aspects of managing data within a company.
  • Skills in the field of mechatronics. You’ll explore signal processing, as well as the principles and applications of artificial intelligence.
  • Team skills and methodological competencies, thanks to practice-oriented projects.

The degree program is structured flexibly: most people do it full-time, but by choosing your modules carefully you can also be more flexible with timing – studying for five semesters, for example. 

During the first two semesters, you’ll increase your knowledge by way of compulsory modules in engineering, choose a focus, take compulsory elective subjects, and work on a team project. In the third semester, you’ll finish by completing your master’s thesis and giving a presentation.
 

What can I do with it?

Whether you work in vehicle development, energy technology, production planning or mechatronics – as a master of engineering, you’ll have a broad range of career opportunities in state-of-the-art, sustainable and technology-driven sectors.

Your degree will allow you to take on engineering and management tasks of great responsibility in companies of all sizes. With your master’s degree (M. Eng.) and a total of 300 credit points under your belt, you’ll also be in a position to embark upon doctoral studies.
