What is it about?

Starting Wintersemester 2026/2027

Would you like to use engineering techniques to develop products that are energy-saving, durable, environmentally-friendly, and can be used in a sustainable manner? Are you keen to advocate for an efficient energy supply that uses renewable energy sources? Are you looking for a state-of-the-art study environment and a modern engineering degree program with lots of options to choose from – so that you can find just the right topics to help you to develop personally?

Would you like to work in different cultures? Are you looking for the tools that will equip you to carry out successful projects around the world?

Then Sustainable Engineering could be just the thing for you.

What can I do with it?

As a graduate in the Sustainable Engineering field, you’ll be able to work in many current professional areas: You’ll be able to take charge of planning and the operation of energy supply systems (including renewable ones), work in traditional product development, or also put your skills to good use in international development cooperation projects.
The intercultural focus will equip you with the skills to work both in large, international companies and organizations, as well as with smaller regional or international projects. With this specialization's central intercultural component, you’ll be able to work outstandingly in an international context, or when cooperating with international partners.
If you would like to specialize technically in environmental protection or urban and environmental planning, the master’s degree program in Environmental Management and Urban Planning in Metropolitan Areas is available at Hochschule RheinMain for you to expand your knowledge further.

Sustainable Eng. is also offered as a cooperative, practice-integrated program

Theory alone isn't your thing? In the practice-integrated track, you'll work at a partner company. You'll gain practical experience and earn your own money.

Time4ing Program Option - Study at Your Own Pace

With the flexible Time4ing option, you can spread the courses from the first three semesters over five semesters. This means you’ll have fewer subjects and examinations per semester during this phase. This gives you more time to focus on important foundational courses such as mathematics, physics, and Computer Science. You’ll also benefit from an extended BAfög funding period.
