What is it about?
Starting Wintersemester 2026/2027
Combine your skills in engineering and business with the Industrial Engineering specialization in the bachelor's degree program in Applied Engineering Sciences.
You’ll learn how to familiarize yourself with new areas of responsibility in your future professional field within a reasonable period of time and to be able to adapt to constantly changing requirements. In addition, you’ll learn to solve problems in an interdisciplinary way, to translate knowledge into sustainable solutions, and to use your social skills to win over other people to participate in these solutions.
A hallmark of this specialization is its comprehensive economic and technical training. The program allows students to combine business skills with different technological focuses. The technical focus areas are:
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Medical Engineering Management
- Environmental Management
The Industrial Engineering specialization can also be studied internationally with the Mechanical Engineering focus area.
At the outset of your studies, you’ll be taught foundational skills in business and technology, which will be supplemented from the second semester with subjects related to the technical focus area that you choose.
What can I do with it?
As a graduate of the Industrial Engineering specialization, you’ll have both technical knowledge and contextual knowledge that goes beyond the environment of technical applications. You’ll be at an advantage compared to graduates of a business administration degree program whenever business administration know-how needs to be supplemented with technical knowledge.
Typical occupational fields include: manufacturing, building and waste management, healthcare, industrial companies which also provide services, the communications industry, software companies, management consulting, the transportation sector, and the maintenance/service industry.
Typical areas of work after graduation may involve: procurement, project and quality management, software engineering, sales, organization, and controlling.
Theory alone isn't your thing? In the practice-integrated track, you'll work at a partner company. You'll gain practical experience and earn your own money.
With the flexible Time4ing option, you can spread the courses from the first three semesters over five semesters. This means you’ll have fewer subjects and examinations per semester during this phase. This gives you more time to focus on important foundational courses such as math, physics, and Computer Science. You’ll also benefit from an extended period of BAfög funding.
