Cooperative Degree Program in Applied Engineering
You want more than just theory? In the cooperative degree program for “Applied Engineering,” you can combine your studies with a career and practical experience. All specializations can be pursued through a practice-integrated track; the Electrical Engineering and Mechatronics specializations can also be pursued through an apprenticeship-integrated track.
Study with an integrated apprenticeship
You can pursue the Electrical Engineering and Mechatronics specializations through an apprenticeship-integrated program.
In an apprenticeship-integrated track, you have the opportunity to combine your studies with vocational training (in Mechatronics or Electrical Engineering) at the same time. This means that you can apply what you learn theoretically in a real-world setting at a company and reinforce your practical experience with scientifically grounded theory. You’ll earn your own money. Sound good?
To do this, you’ll need an apprenticeship contract with a company that partners with Hochschule RheinMain – University of Applied Sciences and Arts.
The Mechatronics training lasts 3 years; the Electrical Engineering training lasts 2.5 years.
Practical, Integrated Study
In addition to Electrical Engineering and Mechatronics, you can also pursue a practice-integrated specialization in the following fields: Applied Physics, Audiovisual Technologies and AI, Electrical and Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Medical Engineering, Sustainable Engineering, Environmental Technology, and Industrial Engineering and Management.
In the work-integrated track, you’ll work at a partner company. You’ll gain practical experience and earn your own money. To do this, you’ll need an employment contract with a partner company of Hochschule RheinMain – University of Applied Sciences and Arts.
Schedule and Details
In a practice-integrated track, you have the opportunity to combine your studies with concurrent practical experience. To do so, you’ll need an employment contract with a company and a cooperation agreement between the company and HSRM.
Electrical Engineering and Mechatronics
During the teaching period, you’ll spend 3 days a week at HSRM and work 2 days at the company. During semester breaks, you’ll be at the partner company.
All Other Specializations
During the teaching period, you’ll be at HSRM four days a week and, as a rule, one day at the company. During semester breaks, you’ll be at the partner company.

The requirements for participation in the cooperative program are:
- Signing an employment or apprenticeship contract with the students employed at your company
- Signing a cooperation agreement with Hochschule RheinMain – University of Applied Sciences and Arts: Cooperation

Step 1: Contract with a Company
To enroll in cooperative studies, you’ll need a training or employment contract with one of our partner companies. You apply directly to the companies for this. Once a contract has been signed, you can apply for the studies at HSRM.
Step 2: Enrollment
Register on the Compass university portal to be admitted to the enrollment process. Next, you’ll need to submit the actual enrollment application along with the required documents. FAQs About Cooperative Studies
No. You have to apply for a position at a company on your own. You can find a list of partner companies that Hochschule RheinMain – University of Applied Sciences and Arts works with here.
If you have signed a contract with the company, we (in the Faculty of Engineering) will be notified by the company. You will receive a welcome letter, and you can – or must – now register on our university portal, Compass, so that you can then enroll in the relevant degree program.
