What is it about?
Starting Wintersemester 2026/2027
The Mechatronics specialization of the bachelor’s degree program in Applied Engineering Sciences combines the mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science disciplines. Mechatronics is a practical and future-focused program. Mechatronic systems can be found in a wide range of applications, including vehicles, robots, drones, household appliances, medical engineering, and aerospace technologies.
Our program aims to provide you with a broad foundational education with a strong practical component. The broad-based basic training allows you to tailor the studies in accordance with your own interests. Whether it’s automation technology, robotics, aerospace, or medical engineering – a wide range of options are on offer.
Study now and decide later on: even during your career, it’s relatively easy to change your role or industry.
The Mechatronics specialization can be studied either full-time or on a cooperative basis. If you choose the latter option, you’ll need to apply for a cooperative degree place with one of our partner companies. There are two cooperative options:
Apprenticeship-integrated: You’ll combine your studies with a mechatronics apprenticeship at one of our partner companies.
Work-integrated: You’ll work at one of our partner companies, in parallel with your studies (with or without completed vocational training).
What can I do with it?
A degree in mechatronics qualifies you for a wide range of activities along the entire value chain. You’ll have the opportunity to work in areas such as marketing, research, development, production, sales, service, and in management roles.
You’ll be able to work in almost any industry, including mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, medical engineering, chemistry, and increasingly also in service sectors. The degree both paves the way both for a successful career launchpad and for pursuing a subsequent master’s degree.
With the flexible Time4ing option, you can spread the courses from the first three semesters over five semesters. This means that during this phase, you’ll have fewer subjects and examinations per semester. This gives you more time to focus on important foundational courses such as mathematics, physics, and Computer Science. You’ll also benefit from an extended BAfög funding period.
