Discover the future of aviation. Experience a unique combination of electrical and aeronautical engineering. Our Electrical and Aeronautical Engineering specialization in the bachelor’s degree program in Applied Engineering Sciences will launch you into an exciting career in the aviation industry.
In your studies, you’ll acquire comprehensive knowledge of the development of electronic aircraft systems, unmanned aerial vehicles, and alternative propulsion technologies.
You’ll directly apply your theoretical knowledge in practical tasks and projects – from implementing flight models in a research simulator, to designing measuring instruments for flight tests. An up-and-coming field is unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), a subject that is covered in great detail in the specialization. You will learn how to build and operate drones right from the first semester.
Hochschule RheinMain has made a name for itself in the field of alternative, electric propulsion systems with battery storage, fuel cells, and hydrogen technology. Research is also being undertaken on their application in the aviation industry.
You can also lay the foundations for your license as a pilot by completing the theoretical components for your private pilot’s license and radio license at our own certified flight school, HSRM Aviation Training. Flight simulators offer the opportunity to gain initial experience in piloting, navigation, and key cockpit procedures.
What can I do with it?
Our Electrical and Aeronautical Engineering program opens the door to a wide range of career opportunities in the aviation industry. Your foundational skills in electrical engineering will equip you to understand and tackle the specific requirements and unique challenges faced by airlines, maintenance providers, air traffic control teams, and airports.
You’ll be able to specialize in the development and operation of electronic aircraft systems, components, and drives. Or you can also use your skills in many other industries where electrical engineering skills are in high demand.
Alternatively, you can deepen your expertise in aviation technology by studying our English-taught, cooperative master’s degree program in Sustainable and Digital Aviation (launching in the winter semester 2026/27).
Theory alone isn't your thing? In the practice-integrated track, you'll work at a partner company. You'll gain practical experience and earn your own money.
With the flexible Time4ing option, you can spread the courses from the first three semesters over five semesters. This means you’ll have fewer subjects and examinations per semester during this phase. This gives you more time to focus on important foundational courses such as math, physics, and Computer Science. You’ll also benefit from an extended BAfög funding period.
