The "Technical Optics" laboratory teaches knowledge and practical skills in various fields of optics as part of practical courses and projects. The learning goals include experimenting with optical components, light sources and precision optical devices, using simulation software and presenting and discussing project results.

The team in the laboratory for femtosecond laser technology conducts research in the field of fs laser material functionalization. The research activities in this field are suitable for final theses as part of the Applied Physics bachelor's and master's degree program. Knowledge of photonics and lasers and an understanding of the processes involved in the interaction between light and matter are of crucial importance here.

The laboratories are part of the Institute of Microtechnologies (IMtech) and therefore have direct access to the institute's entire technology base.
