“What exactly do you study in Engineering?”—ten high school students and seniors from Wiesbaden and Rüsselsheim were able to explore this question through hands-on experience. Together with Prof. Dr. Peter Dannenmann, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and talent scout Jill Carna, they explored the Rüsselsheim Campus. There, they received general information about degree programs and had the opportunity to ask individual questions.
Practical Experience Matters
The interdisciplinary and cross-departmental student initiatives were particularly exciting: Through discussions with current students, the prospective students gained insight into the work of Scuderia Mensa and RheinVolt Motorsport and visited their workshops. There was a great deal of interest in the work of the respective racing teams, which was reflected in their curious and subject-specific questions.
At the end of their visit to the Rüsselsheim Campus, another highlight awaited the young people: the MakerSpace. After the group was shown the equipment in the open workshop, they had the opportunity to try their hand at the laser cutter and soldering station and create an acrylic lamp.
First-Hand Insights into Engineering
For the students, the afternoon at the Faculty of Engineering was thoroughly rewarding. “It’s wonderful to see how vague notions and ideas turn into concrete images, how questions about studies are answered firsthand, and how the young people can thus plan their educational paths with greater confidence. That’s why we’re especially grateful for the collaboration with the faculty!” says Jill Carna, talent scout at HSRM.
Prof. Dr. Dannenmann is also very pleased with the group’s interest in the study opportunities at the Rüsselsheim Campus: “Engineers are still in high demand in Germany. Talent scouting offers participating schools and their students a unique opportunity to learn about various career paths. We’re happy to support this by providing such insights into our campus and our programs.”
