The city of Rüsselsheim has established its first-ever budget advisory board. Its purpose is to assist the administration in developing a budget that can be approved, as well as a sustainable budget consolidation plan. Among others, Prof. Dr. Thomas Heimer has been appointed as an expert to the advisory board.
As is the case with many municipalities, the city’s financial situation is strained. The expert council, which includes representatives from the municipal administration and the relevant Hessian state authority as well as experts, is tasked with independently analyzing the budgetary situation and developing technical recommendations for the 2027 budget and medium-term financial planning. Among other things, the analysis will take into account potential cost savings, organizational improvements, opportunities for digitization, and ways to improve revenue.
As in the past, the City Council will make the final decision on the budget and any potential cost-cutting measures.
Heimer is the deputy director of the azare Research Center and the program director for Industrial Engineering and Management in the bachelor’s degree program in Applied Engineering. Among other courses, he teaches “Procurement and Sales Financing” and “Innovation Management.”
