The WINTERSCHOOL 2026 "Management Skills for Engineers" by Dr. Maria Wiesmann from 9 to 17 March offered a compact, practice-oriented program for students of Engineering Sciences to be well prepared in interdisciplinary teams and for upcoming management tasks in their academic appointments.
Exciting lectures
The theoretical basics for management and leadership tasks were laid in the lectures on "Principles of Management", "Project Lifecycle & Tools", "Effective Communication" by professor Dr. Gertrud Bieber as guest speaker, "Intercultural Training", "Leadership Theories" and "Innovation Management" . This content was supplemented by the interactive workshops "My Management Style" and "Agile & Scrum" as well as a simulation game, several case studies, reflections and a group project. All units made it possible to apply the knowledge learned in realistic scenarios. Throughout the week, all participants communicated in English and were able to recognize their own learning progress in the foreign language.
Highlights of the WINTERSCHOOL
The highlights of the program included a visit to the OPEL plant in Rüsselsheim, which provided insights into industrial production processes, and a visit to the OPEL Classics garage, which brought the company's history and the history of technology to life. The small group was also able to come together well in many interactive elements of the WINTERSCHOOL and exchange ideas across the different degree programs.
WINTERSCHOOL 2026 showed how effectively continuing education, practical tutorials and language development can be combined. The students were also very positive and expressed this in their feedback on the week: "What I liked most about WINTERSCHOOL was the atmosphere and the interaction with others. It was very engaging and made the experience enjoyable".
In summer 2026, a two-week SUMMERSCHOOL 2026 will take place with the topic "Sustainability and E-Fuels" under the direction of Prof. Dr. Heimer and Dr. Wiesmann. Further information will be published soon.
