Franjo Sabo received the golden medal of honor from the Association of German Engineers (VDI) on the occasion of the 8th VDI symposium "Emission Reduction". This was in recognition of his technical and scientific work on the biological purification of exhaust air and gases.
Professor Sabo has already received several awards for his commitment to numerous national and international guideline commissions, including honorary membership, an honorary pin and an honorary plaque. The gold medal of honor is one of the highest awards given by the VDI and is recognition of Prof. Sabo's life's work.
Prof. Sabo was professor of exhaust air purification and emission technology in the Environmental Technology degree program of the Faculty of Engineering at Hochschule RheinMain – University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSRM) until the summer semester 2025. Among other things, he conducted research in the field of biological exhaust air purification, which is only possible at a few universities in Germany. He also gave the English-language lecture Biological Waste Air Treatment in the Biological and Environmental Technology master's degree program. Even after his official departure from the university, Prof. Sabo is still closely associated with the HSRM through his research.
