On Thursday, 12.03.2026, 20 people had the opportunity to visit the Opel plant in Rüsselsheim. The excursion took place under the direction of Dr. Maria Wiesmann in cooperation with the Wirtschaftsjunioren Frankfurt and the WINTERSCHOOL 2026 of the Faculty of Engineering and offered comprehensive insights into modern vehicle production and the traditional Opel Classics garage.
The tour of the Opel plant led through various stations. Here, Opel experts explained automation strategies, quality management processes and the implementation of modern applications in daily operations. Seeing the production line was very impressive for everyone involved and underlined the content of the WINTERSCHOOL very well. The guests from the Wirtschaftsjunioren Frankfurt e.V. association were also very impressed.
Highlight: Opel Classics garage
A special highlight was the exclusive visit to the Opel Classics garage. There, unique pieces and special highlights from the company's 150-year history were presented. The workshop manager provided insights into Opel's impressive history, from sewing machine manufacturer to bicycle manufacturer to the automotive group as the company is known today. For many participants, the opportunity to examine original vehicles and favorite pieces up close was an emotionally and professionally enriching experience.
The excursion provided practical insights into modern manufacturing processes and at the same time showed how the company's history is actively maintained. The students gained valuable links to the course content. At the same time, they were able to get to know different perspectives and concrete practical references. A big thank you goes to the members of staff at the Opel plant in Rüsselsheim for the excellent organization and the expert guided tours. Their commitment and willingness to share knowledge openly made the excursion a lasting learning experience. We would also like to thank the Wirtschaftsjunioren Frankfurt for their valuable cooperation and the inspiring discussions with the students during the tour.
