Project description

One of the central challenges of the mobility transition is to link the various mobility services with each other in such a way that attractive and reliable end-to-end travel chains become possible for customers as an alternative to driving their own car. What has not yet been clarified is in which mobility situations the continuity of services is of primary importance, which attributes of continuous travel chains have what significance and which actors are suitable for a coordinating role from the user's point of view.

The goal of the project is to develop a common understanding of the topic for the partners in the VDV New Mobility Forum and to identify possible joint activities to leverage the identified potential of travel chains.

The methodology is based on focus group discussions with customers of transport companies and new mobility providers. Concentrating on this group makes it possible to efficiently gain deeper insights into the perception of individual transport services considered and their combination into travel chains through new mobility services.

A total of seven focus group discussions with over 60 participants were held in Berlin, Hamburg, Krumbach, Mainz, Mannheim and Munich before the pandemic-related lockdown. The results show a great heterogeneity of customer needs and thus the need for target group-specific approaches. At the same time, however, strong success factors of end-to-end travel chains also emerged, such as the reliability of offers and connections.
