Laboratory for staircase construction

Tasks and equipment

The laboratory for staircase construction is part of the field of structural analysis within the specialization "Structural Engineering" of the degree programs "Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering" (B.Eng.) and "Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering & Construction Management" (M.Eng.). It is one of Germany's leading facilities for model static investigations in staircase construction.

The goal of the component tests is to develop new fasteners and provide proof of the suitability of new materials in staircase construction. Using modern equipment, practical tests are combined with theoretical modelling (e.g. finite element method) in order to precisely analyze the load-bearing behavior, deformations, stresses and vibration behavior of staircase structures.
The results are incorporated into national and international standards as well as trade guidelines.
