Laboratory for urban water management
Tasks and equipment
The laboratory for urban water management (Siwawi laboratory) is equipped for measurements, investigations and tests of water, wastewater, sewage sludge and soils. This includes, for example
- Biological-chemical analyses,
- Microscopic observations,
- Computer-aided calculations and simulations,
- Technical test stands and
- visual and experimental demonstrations.
The existing laboratory facilities are used on the one hand to impart skills for student teaching and on the other hand to work on research and development projects as well as reviewers for private and public practical experience.
The Siwawi laboratory is integrated into the in-depth courses and practicals with small student groups and thus forms the basis for application-oriented teaching in the Civil Engineering and Environmental Management and Urban Planning in Metropolitan Areas (UMSB) degree programs.
Projects and bachelor's and master's theses can also be carried out by arrangement. The laboratory is part of the Water and Soil research group.
Practical relevance
The Siwawi laboratory has always cooperated with regional waste disposal companies and sewage treatment plant operators. For example, the Idstein-Beuerbach municipal sewage treatment plant provides practical support in the form of inspections and sampling. Monitoring programs for water quality are illustrated with short excursions to the Wellritzbach watercourse.
