Endowed professorship for cycling
The BMVI endowed professorship for cycling traffice at Hochschule RheinMain
The professorship specializes in the planning and design of cycling and pedestrian traffic facilities, the management and operation of these infrastructures and road safety. It is closely integrated into the Mobility Management department at Hochschule RheinMain and contributes to building a profile-forming specialization in the field of Sustainable Mobility.
The specializations:
- Anchoring in teaching: Integration of the design of traffic facilities, especially for pedestrians and cyclists, into undergraduate degree programs such as the Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and Mobility Management.
- Deepening knowledge: Deepening the understanding of pedestrian and cycling issues in continuing education programs such as the Master's degree program Sustainable Mobility and offering continuing education to qualify cycling experts.
- Interdisciplinary research: Application-oriented, interdisciplinary research in the field of cycling in cooperation with other partners and disciplines.
Integration into teaching
In the winter semester 2022/23, the regional master's degree program "Sustainable Mobility" was launched in cooperation with Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences and Mittelhessen University of Applied Sciences. The degree program offers qualified training in transport planning, transport facility design, Mobility Management and innovative business models in the transport sector.
Research and cooperation
The current research focus includes fairer land use and gender-appropriate planning and design of transport facilities, innovative approaches to the condition assessment and evaluation of out-of-town cycling infrastructure and the approval of existing infrastructure for S-Pedelecs.

Doctorates and continuing education
RheinMain University of Applied Sciences supports doctoral projects at the "Logistics and Mobility" doctoral center and is working together with other universities of applied sciences and experienced practitioners to develop structures in the field of continuing education for transport planners and engineers.
The endowed professorship ended on 31.12.2025 at Hochschule RheinMain.
