Recognition of achievements

Changing degree program or university, training, working?

Are you transferring from another higher education institution to Hochschule RheinMain or have you decided to make a change of degree program within our university? Have you already completed training or were/are you working? Then it is important for you to know which credits you have already achieved can be recognized or credited so that you do not have to take lectures and, above all, examinations twice. You can find general information on this in German and English on AN!, the website for recognition and credit transfer in studies of the German Rectors' Conference.

Before submitting the application for recognition/credit transfer, we strongly recommend that you consult with the recognition officer responsible for you. You submit the application for recognition online in KommA - the recognition tool. The recognition procedure usually takes six weeks.

Legally binding recognition can only be granted once you are enrolled in your new degree program at Hochschule RheinMain. Detailed information on the admission procedure can be found on our Application and Enrollment pages. Please note that the application procedure for a higher semester of study is different from that for the first semester of study.

Studying abroad?

Are you planning to spend one or more semesters abroad and have questions about the recognition of the credits to be earned there? Then please contact the International Office in good time. Before your stay abroad, you should conclude a Learning Agreement with the recognition officer for your degree program. The credits entered here will be recognized after your return from abroad. You submit the application in KommA - the recognition tool.

University degree in social work obtained abroad?

Have you obtained a university degree in social work abroad and would like to have it admitted in Germany? Do you have questions about the procedure? Then you can find detailed information at the Recognition Office for Foreign Qualifications.

Procedure of the recognition process

The recognition procedure takes place in four steps and is usually completed six weeks after receipt of the application.

Step 1

Before you submit an application in the KommA recognition tool, it is strongly recommended that you contact the recognition officer for your degree program and discuss the next steps with him/her.

Step 2

Open a recognition procedure in the KommA recognition tool and create your recognition cases. The guide for students introduces you to KommA and provides important information on how to submit the correct applicant. Or simply watch the explanatory video(in German). Once the application has been finalized, the recognition officer will be informed automatically by email.

Step 3

The recognition officer evaluates the acquired competencies based on criteria. This means: Higher education institution achievements can be recognized as long as they do not show any significant difference in quality, level, learning outcomes or profile. Credits earned outside the higher education institution can be recognized if they are equivalent to those offered at the university. For more detailed information, please refer to the recognition regulations of Hochschule RheinMain.

Please check the progress of your application in KommA at regular intervals. If you need to submit additional supporting documents, you will find a corresponding comment there.

Step 4

The recognition officer will decide whether to accept or reject your application and document the decision accordingly in KommA. The result is documented in the student file. If the decision is positive, the achievement will be transferred directly to Compass. You will receive a written rejection notification if your application is rejected.

Contact persons for the recognition of achievements

The recognition of studies and examinations as well as the transfer of credits earned outside the university is carried out according to a criteria-based recognition procedure in accordance with the Lisbon Convention and the Recognition Statutes of Hochschule RheinMain (Official Announcements No. 796).
