History
Hochschule RheinMain – University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSRM) was founded in 1971 as Wiesbaden University of Applied Sciences from the former engineering schools in Geisenheim, Idstein and Rüsselsheim and the former Werkkunstschule in Wiesbaden. On September 1, 2009, it was renamed Hochschule RheinMain / University of Applied Sciences.
In 2011, the Hessian State Library was integrated into the university. Together with the existing departmental libraries, it now forms the RheinMain University and State Library.
Five faculties at two locations
On January 1, 2013, the Geisenheim faculty and the Geisenheim Research Institute became a new, independent university. Following the merger of the former 14 faculties and the spin-off of Geisenheim, the HSRM now has five faculties: the Faculties of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Design Computer Science Media, Social Sciences and Wiesbaden Business School in the City of Wiesbaden and the Faculty of Engineering in Rüsselsheim am Main.
50 years of Hochschule RheinMain
In 2021, Hochschule RheinMain – University of Applied Sciences and Arts celebrated its 50th anniversary. A new chapter was opened in the anniversary year with Prof. Dr. Eva Waller. The lawyer is the first President of Hochschule RheinMain. Prior to that, Prof. Dr. Manfred Volkmann, Prof. Dr. Konrad Seyffarth, Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Wolfgang Courtin, Prof. Dr. Clemens Klockner and Prof. Dr. Detlev Reymann shaped the development of the university.
Focus on 4 research centers
To this day, practice-oriented teaching is the core of the universities of applied sciences. With their application-oriented research, they are an important pillar of the academic educational system in Germany.
At the HSRM, this is particularly evident in the four profile-forming research focuses. Both in research and in teaching, professors work together with students to develop sustainable solutions for companies, administration, politics and civil society organizations - locally, regionally and internationally.
Approachable university
The university recognizes individual educational biographies and systematically promotes talent. As a partner university of leading athletics, the HSRM supports students who play sport at a competitive level. Whereas Wiesbaden University of Applied Sciences had 2,562 students in the mid-1970s, today Hochschule RheinMain – University of Applied Sciences and Arts has a total of around 12,200 students.
