Frequently asked questions about PreStudyING@HSRM
You need a secondary school leaving certificate that allows you to study a STEM subject in your home country or in the country where you obtained your degree. This means that you may also be able to apply for PreStuyING@HSRM if you still need to provide proof of one year of study for the Studienkolleg in Germany. After successfully completing the program, you will receive a direct university entrance qualification for the Bachelor's degree programs at the Faculty of Engineering at Hochschule RheinMain.
You can study all Bachelor's degree programs at the Faculty of Engineering at Hochschule RheinMain. Please note that this qualification will not allow you to study at another univeristy at first.
Participation in PreStudyIN@HSRM is subject to a participation fee of €1,425 per semester and semester fees of €350 per semester. At the end of the C1 German course, there is a one-time examination fee of 210€ for the TestDaF examination.
The textbooks for the German courses are provided.
If you only take the entrance exam (without a preparation course), the fee for the entrance exam is 250€. If you participate in the preparation course, this fee does not have to be paid in addition to the participation fee.
The PreStudyING program at Hochschule RheinMain offers three scholarship places per course for refugee participants. The scholarship covers the tuition fees. Further information on the scholarship places can be found on our scholarship website.

All PreStudyING@HSRM course options start in the summer and winter semesters. Please note that all courses begin before the regular start of the semester, on March 1st or September 1st. PreStudyIN@HSRM lasts six or twelve months depending on the program option and ends a few weeks before the start of the next semester. After completing PreStudyING@HSRM, you can start your regular Bachelor's degree program in the subsequent semester. Find out more about the program details.
You can send your application by email to prestudy@hs-rm.de. An application via uni.assist is not necessary. The application deadlines for the preparatory courses are January 15 for the summer semester and July 15 for the winter semester. The application deadlines for the external entrance exam (without preparation course) are October 15 and April 15. Further details on the application can be found here.
PerStudyING@HSRM is offered as a six- or twelve-month preparatory program or as an external entrance examination (without preparatory program). The two preparation programs differ in the scope of the German and subject courses. The twelve-month program includes a B2 and C1 language course as well as Mathematics I & II, Physics I & II and basic Computer Sciences. The six-month program offers a C1 language course only as well as Mathematics II, Physics II and basic Computer Sciences. The external entrance examination is purely a subject-specific examination in physics and mathematics, with which you can obtain your higher education entrance qualification for the Fachulty of Engineering at Hochschule RheinMain. The external entrance exam does not include a preparatory program. We do however offer access to a digital learning module to help you prepare.
