denkmal, the leading European trade fair for the preservation, restoration and renovation of historic buildings, took place in Leipzig from November 7 to 9, 2024. On the occasion of the fair, ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites) Germany organized a conference entitled "Procedures and Mechanisms to Strengthen World Heritage Protection". The focus was on current challenges and strategies for safeguarding UNESCO World Heritage sites, including monitoring, quality assurance and cultural heritage impact assessments.
Hochschule RheinMain was represented by Prof. Michael Kloos, holder of the UNESCO Chair for Historic Urban Landscapes and Cultural Heritage Impact Assessments, as well as by Hjördis Dall, a student on the master's degree program Baukulturerbe | Bauen mit Bestand. Prof. Kloos gave a lecture entitled "Cultural heritage impact assessments: Basics and Case Studies" and highlighted key aspects of these methods for the protection of World Heritage Sites. Hjördis Dall presented a semester project on wind power and World Heritage. Numerous members of the Baukultur network, founded by former students of the degree program, were also present.
