Sustainability and resilience: annual conference of the UNESCO Chairs

09.10.2023 - Prof. Dr. Michael Kloos and Dr. Merve Demiröz Torun from the UNESCO Chair on Historic Urban Landscape and Heritage Impact Assessment at Hochschule RheinMain were part of the annual conference of the German UNESCO Chairs, which was hosted this year by the Erlangen UNESCO Chair for Digital Culture and Art in Education. The event, which took place at the Nuremberg Academy for Digital Culture and Performative Education, lasted two informative days from October 5-6, 2023.

With the overarching theme of sustainability and resilience, the conference led to a dynamic exchange of different professional perspectives and emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration. The Hochschule RheinMain UNESCO Chair actively contributed to the discussions on promoting sustainable practical experiences in heritage planning, in line with UNESCO's global mission. The conference also provided a platform for networking and promoting joint initiatives within the UNESCO network. Discussions included the DUK Report and the contributions of UNESCO Chairs to events such as the Summit of the Future.

Prior to the actual annual conference, the Chair also attended the first meeting of the recently established doctoral and postdoctoral network of UNESCO Chairs to gather current challenges, needs and ideas for the further development of the skills network.

The UNESCO Chair on Historic Urban Landscape and Heritage Impact Assessment looks forward to using the knowledge and networks gained from this enriching experience to continue its mission of promoting sustainability and resilience in heritage practical experience through landscape approaches and impact assessments.
