HSRM City Lab

RheinMain University of Applied Sciences goes City

23.05.2024 - With the "HSRM-City Lab", a pop-up studio for the Architecture courses at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences (HSRM), the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering is now moving into the Luisenforum, making itself even more visible in Wiesbaden's city center.

Wiesbaden is a university city and RheinMain University of Applied Sciences (HSRM) is the largest of these educational institutions. In addition to its international orientation, HSRM has always been involved locally. Thanks to its regional network and a broad range of programs, it is helping to shape Wiesbaden in many areas of society - for example, with its many years of expertise in the development of existing buildings and sustainable construction as an active player in the discourse on the burning issues of climate-friendly and socially sustainable urban development.

Urban development on site

Bachelor's and Master's degree students of Architecture will work in and on the city in various projects in the new premises in Dotzheimer Straße. Exhibitions and events are also planned, with which students and professors will actively participate in the discussion about the strategic orientation of Wiesbaden's existing and urban development. This discourse will be complemented by other related expertise from the faculty, from the question of future mobility concepts and sustainable real estate development to research into the urban use of renewable building materials.

From idea to occupancy in four weeks

The immediate creation of the "pop-up", in the truest sense of the word, is thanks to the pragmatic and goal-oriented actions of all the university institutions involved: "I have never experienced such committed and constructive cooperation between all the people involved in a shared vision in my university career to date," says Prof. Sascha Luippold, Degree Program Head Architecture and Professor of Design and Climate-Friendly Construction at the HSRM. "Going from idea to occupancy in just four weeks is a peak performance and a good example of the enormous and positive energy potential of the university within the urban community. My overwhelming thanks go to everyone involved!"

The students are already starting their work in the new "HSRM City Lab" this week. Over the next few weeks, the visibility will be gradually increased by adding logos and exhibition facilities, thus creating the requirements for a place of open research and learning as well as public exchange and the joint acquisition of knowledge.

"By reactivating a space in the Luisenforum - the former citizens' office of the City of Wiesbaden - the 'HSRM-City Lab' is making a direct contribution to the revitalization of Wiesbaden's city center right from the start. We are also increasing the networking of our students and scientists in and with the city," explains HSRM President Prof. Dr. Eva Waller.
