Dr. Merve Demiröz Torun, coordinator of the UNESCO Chair, has joined the COST Action CA22156 - Transformations International Experience and Research Network for Sustainable Futures (TransformERS). TransformERS aims to promote impactful research, policy and practical experience for societal transformations that support equity in a dynamic global context. The network brings together experts focused on historical, social and environmental changes relevant to achieving a sustainable future.
As an active member of Working Group 2, which focuses on historical transformations, Dr. Demiröz Torun contributes to the discussions on critical transformations spanning from the 1870s to the post-World War II period. Among the topics the group will examine are changes in energy, urban planning, mobility, food and water management.
On September 24 and 25, Dr. Demiröz Torun took part in a working group meeting in Vienna, which was supported by a mobility grant. Under the leadership of Dr. Edeltraud Haselsteiner and Gilda Hoxha, joint efforts were made to compile a systematic literature review on these historical changes. The group's interdisciplinary approach demonstrates how past transformations can provide information for a sustainable and just future.
