In July, 35 students from Hochschule RheinMain had the opportunity to take part in an excursion to the Rodgau combined plant. The excursion was organized by the Bundesverband Kalksandsteinindustrie e. V., Bundesverband Porenbetonindustrie e. V. and Verband Bauen in Weiß e. V. associations.
Students and teaching staff from Hochschule RheinMain, IU Duale Hochschule Frankfurt/Mannheim/Mainz, Darmstadt Technical University and Mainz University of Applied Sciences were given an insight into the production processes for sand-lime bricks and aerated concrete. They visited both the sand-lime brick plant and the aerated concrete plant and were able to gather information relevant to their studies.
The excursion included a tour of the sand-lime brick plant and the aerated concrete plant, a specialist lecture on technical topics, sustainability strategies and current developments as well as practical processing exercises for the students with the various masonry formats. The participants also had the opportunity to apply their newly acquired knowledge directly by laying bricks themselves.
The excursion offered the students a unique experience and valuable first-hand expertise on the energy- and raw material-intensive manufacturing processes directly from the plant managers.
