Young talent awards go to four HSRM students

On November 19, 2024, the BDA Study Award 2024 was presented at the Walkmühle artists' association in Wiesbaden. The best works by young architecture students were selected from 32 submissions. The award, which was presented for the 6th time, recognizes innovative projects and focuses on the importance of architectural education.

In his welcoming speech, Luigi Pennella (BDA Hessen) emphasized the central role of the next generation of architects: "Your training is the key to meeting the challenges of the future. It takes courage to break new ground!"

Prof. Andreas Fuchs (Hochschule RheinMain) was also confident: "I am sure that there is a generation here that will make it. I have great confidence that young students will master the challenges."

Insights from FAR frohn&rojas

In his presentation, Marc Frohn gave exciting insights into the projects of his office FAR frohn&rojas. The first project was the Wall House in Santiago de Chile, which brought the office international recognition. The Frei Otto exhibition in Karlsruhe illustrated the architect's ideas with models and a wall structure. At the Biennale in Venice, the focus was on the working processes for the rediscovery of the Multihalle Mannheim. With the Wohnregal in Berlin, Frohn presented a modular building system inspired by industrial halls. In a project for a prefabricated housing estate in Berlin-Marzahn, the existing green axis was integrated into the planning. The lecture concluded with an outlook on current residential construction in Cologne and Chile.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of the BDA Study Award. Outstanding final theses were honored by the members of the jury Katrin Bialucha (architect BDA Darmstadt), Marcus Vaupel (urban planner / urban planning office Wiesbaden), Lisa Knieper (architect BDA Wiesbaden), Sven Burghardt (architect BDA Wiesbaden) as well as Prof. Andreas Fuchs (architect / Hochschule RheinMain), who acted as an advisor in the jury process.

Recognition went to Jan Bienefeld and Stefan Simon for their project "Carlo und die zwei Türme" and to Paulina Knapp for her work "Modulares Wohnen am Parkfeld Nord". Moritz Scheufele received the BDA Study Award for his project "gallusdino", which particularly impressed the jury with its creative approach to the reuse of existing buildings.
