A team of students from the Civil Engineering degree program at Hochschule RheinMain successfully took part in this year's concrete canoe regatta. Together with the support of lecturers from the solid construction laboratory, the canoe with the motto "The Gambler" - based on Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky's novel "The Gambler" and the reference to Wiesbaden - was launched under the name "Ace of Spades" in Brandenburg an der Havel.
The concrete canoe regatta, organized by InformationsZentrum Beton GmbH, combines concrete and boat building technology, sporting competition and, above all, lots of fun. Participants come from various educational institutions where concrete technology is taught. The assessment covers both the construction of the canoe and the race itself, in which the teams compete for victory.
The first concrete canoe regatta took place in 1986 and included a team of students from Hochschule RheinMain (then still FH-Wiesbaden). In 2026, the canoes will be launched for the 20th time. Alumni and students interested in taking part are welcome to register now for the anniversary edition of the concrete canoe regatta.
