On September 23 and 24, 2026, Hochschule RheinMain – University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSRM) in Wiesbaden will host the 23rd workshop of the Virtual and Augmented Reality Special Interest Group of the German Computer Science Society (GI).

The GI-VR/AR workshop is one of the leading academic events for virtual, augmented, and extended reality in the German-speaking world and brings together approximately 100 experts from research and industry each year. The focus is on current developments in virtual reality, augmented reality, extended reality, mixed reality, 3D interaction, and related fields of research.

The program includes scientific presentations and papers from the Paper Track. This year’s keynote speakers are:

  • Prof. Dr. Philipp Slusallek, Scientific Director of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and Professor of Computer Graphics at Saarland University
  • Prof. Dr. Julie R. Williamson, professor of Immersive Interaction (Computing Science) at the University of Glasgow

Speakers at the opening ceremony will include Dr. Nicolas Sölter, State Secretary at the Hessian Ministry of Digitalization and Innovation, and Prof. Dr. Eva Waller, President of the HSRM.

In addition to the scientific program, the workshop features an exhibition with demonstrations and exhibits from the fields of computer graphics, games, virtual and augmented reality, computer vision, artificial intelligence, and hardware. Companies will have the opportunity to present their solutions, engage in dialogue with researchers, and network with students and doctoral candidates. In this way, the event at HSRM creates a framework for knowledge transfer between research, practical experience, and junior researchers.

The event is organized by Prof. Dr. Ralf Dörner, Dr. Robin Horst, Prof. Dr. Marion Koelle, and Prof. Dr. Martin Weier from the faculty of Design Computer Science Media

Participation in the GI VR/AR workshop 2026 is free of charge. Further information on the program and registration can be found on the event website.
