International health, accident and liability insurance

Participation in an exchange program or the acceptance of a scholarship does not entail any insurance cover. Please ensure that you have adequate insurance cover in good time.

For a stay in one of the EU member states, students with statutory health insurance can have the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) issued by their health insurance company. Find out from your health insurance company what benefits the EHIC includes and whether additional insurance may be advisable. You can also find information on this on the website of the European Commission.

If you are going to a country that has not concluded a social agreement with Germany, you must take out private insurance for your stay abroad. Ask your health insurance provider for advice.

Through the Association for Student Affairs Frankfurt am Main, all students of Hochschule RheinMain are covered by accident and liability insurance during their studies or internship abroad.

The DAAD's combined health, accident and personal liability insurance offers you comprehensive cover.

Depending on your destination region, please remember to get sufficient vaccinations in good time!

Is a visa necessary?

Students who are citizens of an EU member state may complete an internship in another member state without a visa or work permit.
If you are planning an internship outside the European Union, please enquire about the applicable regulations in good time at the respective representation of the country. For students without German citizenship, the visa regulations in individual countries may differ considerably. Find out in good time before about the requirements that apply to you.

A special case is a visa for studies or an internship in the USA. You must apply for the relevant visa through an authorized intermediary organization. The following organizations can help you:

German-American Chamber of Commerce New York: www.gaccny.com
TravelWorks: www.travelworks.de
College Council: www.college-council.de
CDS International: www.cdsintl.org
Ayusa-Intrax: www.intrax.de/j1-visum-service/usa.html

Reimbursement of the SemesterTicket

As you must continue to be enrolled in the HSRM during your stay abroad, it is also necessary to pay the full semester fees. However, under certain requirements you can have the SemesterTicket refunded by the AStA. You can find more information about this on the AStA website.

Recognition of courses

In general, it is possible to have courses taken abroad recognized. This must be discussed with the department (internationalization or recognition officer) BEFORE the start of the semester abroad. Please draw up a learning agreement in consultation with your degree program.
