What is it?

The blended learning degree program Social Work - Education in Childhood and Youth focuses on topics in the context of education as well as on the phase of life of childhood and youth (0-27 years).

Students will acquire a wide range of specialist knowledge and methodological skills to qualify them to work as state-certified social workers/social pedagogues in the field of child and youth education. They will learn to recognize, reflect upon, and justify the necessity to take action in situations in professional practice, to plan and implement appropriate activities and support settings and to evaluate their impact.

Within the modules, 50% of the teaching takes place as e-learning via a learning platform and 50% as on-campus teaching at the university. On-campus teaching is carried out on two days per week.

The central focus of the degree program is to qualify graduates for occupations in the fields of counselling, guidance, and support of individual and collective educational and learning processes in public, independent non-profit and private-sector organizations and institutions. In addition, they will acquire networking and teamworking skills to promote the collaboration of a wide range of educational institutions working with children and young people.

In order to acquire state certification as a social worker/social pedagogue, students will, among other things, complete a part-time internship lasting two semesters.

What can I do with it?

The fields of social work range from providing support with development and coping tasks for people of different ages to counselling and providing guidance in the context of the increasing complexity of professional, family, and social life.

In addition to qualifying graduates for all areas of social work, the degree program aims to provide specific qualifications for specialists working in areas of social pedagogy/social work in the education sector with addressees aged between zero and 27 (from birth to the transition from school – job training – professional life), such as open child and youth work, youth vocational assistance, family education and counseling and school social work.
