Campus development

Development of the Wiesbaden central campus

Hochschule RheinMain – University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSRM) is pursuing ambitious goals, not only due to the considerable increase in student numbers, but also due to the plan to expand the campus on Kurt-Schumacher-Ring Campus into Wiesbaden's central campus and to relocate faculties currently housed outside the city.

Science City" master plan

Based on an initial "Science City" master plan from 2013, a framework plan was developed together with the City of Wiesbaden, which will subsequently shape the development of the university at this location. In anticipation of this development, the first projects have already been implemented or planned.

Commissioning of the G building

Building G on the Kurt-Schumacher-Ring Campus was completed in the 2015/2016 winter semester. The architecturally striking lecture hall pavilion made of wood and exposed concrete gives the university a face to the city and comprises two modern lecture halls that can accommodate up to 195 people in total. The dynamically designed stairs and ramps provide barrier-free access to the campus grounds.

Starting signal for the largest extension to date

As part of the Higher Education Pact HSP 2020 Invest Phase III, the HSRM received budget for a new construction project, which it carried out with project-related building autonomy. In spring 2017, the state of Hesse acquired parts of an adjacent former school property for this purpose. Apart from Building G, this is the first major expansion of the university campus on Kurt-Schumacher-Ring since the university buildings were constructed in the 1980s.

Opening of the new teaching and learning building

On November 20, 2025, after eight years of construction, the HSRM was able to inaugurate its new Building L on the Kurt-Schumacher-Ring Campus in Wiesbaden in the presence of the Hessian Ministers of Science and Finance. With around 3,900 square meters of floor space, it houses seminar rooms, student workrooms, a lecture hall, a library and a cafeteria. The new building also houses the TeachingLearningCenter (LLZ), which bundles interdisciplinary offerings for all university members. The total cost of the new building was around 40 million euros, 31 million of which was financed by federal and state subsidies.

Looking to the future

With the funding from the HEUREKA II and HEUREKA III university construction program, the expansion of the Kurt-Schumacher-Ring Campus will be further promoted, although there is currently a backlog of applications with the state and the new "Hessian Higher Education Pact 2026 to 2031" will also result in savings in the construction area compared to previous plans.

In the long term, the existing parking pallet is to be replaced by a compact parking garage. In a next step, the resulting free campus space would be used to construct new buildings for the Wiesbaden Business School faculty and thus integrate them into the future central campus. In addition, the financial resources are to be used to renovate the existing Buildings A and D in terms of energy efficiency and bring them up to the latest technical standards.

Topping-out ceremony for student hall of residence

Independently of the construction and renovation projects at HSRM, Studierendenwerk Frankfurt am Main is currently building a new student residence for 435 students adjacent to the Kurt-Schumacher-Ring Campus with an integrated childcare center and a service area for counseling services. The topping-out ceremony was celebrated in September 2025 and the opening is planned for fall 2026.

Refurbishment of main buildings A and B

Extensive renovations were carried out at the Rüsselsheim Campus, where the Faculty of Engineering is located, between 2011 and 2016. 43.7 million euros were invested in the refurbishment of Main Buildings A and B. Both buildings were renovated to improve their energy efficiency, all interiors were completely refurbished and key technical systems (lighting, ventilation systems, fire protection technology) were replaced. All of the modernized rooms have been available to students again since the 2016/2017 winter semester.

New G building

The new G building was inaugurated in January 2017. The first floor of the modern construction houses two large lecture halls, each with 140 seats and ascending rows of seats, as well as a seminar room and two rooms for student project work. On the two upper floors, there are further contemporary seminar rooms, offices and rooms for student project work. The costs for this new building amounted to 7.06 million euros and were provided by the Higher Education Pact 2020 investment program of the state of Hesse.

Additional parking spaces

The expansion of the parking lot was completed at the end of 2019, providing 66 additional parking spaces.

Redesign of the outdoor area

Parts of the outdoor facilities were refurbished in 2019. The central courtyard was then extensively redesigned and renovated in 2024. The campus beer garden "relaxING" opened there in May 2025.

Library with a new roof

After around a year of construction and remodeling, the Rüsselsheim location of the Hochschule RheinMain Library (HLB) reopened in May 2025. Among other things, the premises in Building A have been given a new roof structure.
