Information technology is permeating more and more areas of life and activities; numerous processes in research, teaching, and administration are no longer conceivable without IT support. However, this also means that the damage that can result from the failure, malfunction, or misuse of IT services and systems is becoming all the more significant. The core principles of information security are:
- Confidentiality (Only authorized access to data is permitted)
- Availability (IT services and systems can be used by authorized users)
- Integrity (Only authorized modifications to data are permitted)
To achieve these goals, users must play an active role alongside IT security officers and administrators. Basic guidelines are provided in the university’s IT usage regulations and IT security policy.
An appropriate level of security can only be achieved through a combination of coordinated organizational and technical measures. It is the responsibility of IT security management to define these measures and ensure their implementation.
In the event of security-related incidents, such as data theft or data manipulation, the IT and Media Center offers assistance to the administrators of the affected systems via the IT Service Desk.
