As the university’s central IT and media service provider, the ITMZ offers all members of the university community a broad range of IT and media services, as well as various consulting and support services, at the university’s various campuses.
In line with a modern IT and media landscape and the university’s philosophy, these services are also designed to conserve resources and promote sustainability.
Here you will find an overview of the most important services. Detailed information on additional services, as well as instructions and other resources, is available to all employees and students via our IT service portal.
To meet the need for flexibility and mobility in the areas of email administration, contact management, and appointment/task planning, the IT and Media Center operates a central email system (Microsoft Exchange Server) as an enterprise messaging platform for all university members.
The central email system provides consistent access via devices such as smartphones, tablets, computers, or webmail, allowing you to work productively virtually anywhere and perform email administration, contact administration, task administration, and appointment administration.
To take full advantage of the mailbox’s features, we recommend accessing it via https://webmail.hs-rm.de or a current version of Outlook.
HSRM COMPASS is the university’s central campus management system. It supports faculty, students, and administrative staff in organizing and carrying out administrative processes related to Studies and Teaching. The system enables efficient and transparent management of degree programs, examinations, courses, and student records.
- Applications: New applicants and students can apply for positions and track the status of their applications.
- Student Data: View and perform administration for your own student data, such as address changes, applying for leave of absence, disenrollment from the university, name changes, and adjustments to your part-time degree program.
- Degree Program: Access to module handbooks, the course catalog, and degree program plans.
- Courses: Enroll in courses, view your own course schedule, and get an overview of the courses you’re taking.
- Courses: Registering for and dropping courses, viewing your own grades and grade reports.
- Certificates: Generating and printing certificates such as certificates of enrollment, academic transcripts, grade reports, and an overview of examinations registered for and dropped
HSRM COMPASS is accessible via the website https://compass.hs-rm.de.
The HDS ID is a personalized user ID for members of the Hochschule RheinMain – University of Applied Sciences and Arts community.
This ID provides access to Hochschule RheinMain – University of Applied Sciences and Arts’ central services and systems (authentication and authorization):
- Authorization to use email services
- Authorization to use Wi-Fi, VPN, and Eduroam services
- Authorization for registration on computers
- Authorization to use the campus management system and the learning management system

Stud.IP, the online support system for in-person courses, is primarily used at Hochschule RheinMain – University of Applied Sciences and Arts as an administration, information, and communication platform. The system is available to all students, faculty, and staff via HDS access.
Stud.IP can be used for course administration, which involves automatically entering courses into a calendar or course schedule (under the “Planner” menu item). In addition, other features—such as wikis and forums—can be enabled, and participants can be divided into groups.
The structure of Hochschule RheinMain – University of Applied Sciences and Arts is also reflected in Stud.IP; that is, faculties, departments, and degree programs are displayed hierarchically from top to bottom as organizational units.

The ITMZ coordinates and provides various Wi-Fi networks:
- CampusWLAN – Provision of a campus-wide Wi-Fi network for students and staff at Hochschule RheinMain – University of Applied Sciences and Arts
- Eduroam – Provision of an intercollegiate Wi-Fi network, also accessible at other universities for students and staff of Hochschule RheinMain – University of Applied Sciences and Arts as well as guests from other universities
- Guest Wi-Fi – Provision of a temporary Wi-Fi network for guests attending events – set up by designated individuals within the faculties and divisions
Information about EDUROAM
Eduroam stands for “Education Roaming” and provides global wireless LAN roaming. Within the Research & Teaching user group, institutions worldwide can use Eduroam. Hochschule RheinMain – University of Applied Sciences and Arts has been participating in DFN Roaming since June 2008. This enables members of the Hochschule RheinMain – University of Applied Sciences and Arts community to use the Wi-Fi networks of other institutions participating in DFN Roaming.
If you are a student at our university visiting another university campus or educational institution and wish to use Eduroam/DFN Roaming, please note the following:
- First, please check whether the respective institution participates in the DFN Roaming or Eduroam network and which SSID and encryption methods are offered there for roaming.
- Use the Wi-Fi SSID provided on-site for roaming. Normally, this will be "Eduroam."
- Configure the network authentication using the encryption method in accordance with the local guidelines at your host institution. WPA or WPA2 and TKIP or AES are typically used.
- User authentication must be configured according to the guidelines of your home institution, Hochschule RheinMain – University of Applied Sciences and Arts (in this case, PEAP).
- When establishing a connection, you must enter your HDS login credentials: HDS-Kennung@hs-rm.de
IMPORTANT: Encryption with WPA2 and AES is mandatory at all locations.
For Android and Linux devices that are to be connected to the eduroam network, please use the following certificate:
A virtual private network (VPN) is a technology that encrypts data and transmits it securely—via a so-called tunnel—over the Internet.
No matter where in the world you are or which service provider you use to connect to the Internet, you can establish a secure connection to the university network through our VPN service. Your data travels from your computer to the VPN server via an encrypted connection through the network.
Another advantage of the VPN service is that your computer is assigned an IP address from the university network, giving you access to internal resources (network drives, restricted systems) and online resources (online books, standards, etc.) from the university and state libraries. You can then work just as efficiently from your mobile workstation as you would from a desktop workstation on campus.
