Pre-authentication

Why is this necessary?

German public documents are often only recognized abroad if they have been legalized, i.e. confirmed, by the respective foreign representation (e.g. embassy). Before legalization is possible, the documents must first be certified by various German authorities.

What must be taken into account?

In order to obtain a "preliminary legalization" or "apostille" for documents, academic transcripts or course certificates, the corresponding copies and the information for which country they are intended are required.

Pre-certifications and a cover letter for the Regional Council in Darmstadt will then be issued. You submit these supporting documents to the regional council in Darmstadt.

How can I obtain a preliminary certification?

On request, the certification can be sent directly to the regional council in Darmstadt. To do this, we need the relevant copies, a copy of your identity card or passport and a current address. If you are currently abroad, please provide an address in Germany. The invoice and further information can be obtained from the Darmstadt Regional Council.

Please note that the processing time for issuing a pre-certification is currently approx. 3 weeks.
