Erasmus+ internships Application procedure
The internship position does not necessarily have to be a traditional company; internships at social institutions, NGOs, associations, foundations, etc. are also supported.
The activity must be related to your studies and it must be a full-time internship. If the internship is to be recognized as a compulsory internship, please clarify further technical/content-related conditions in advance with your degree program (Internship Coordinator).
- You are enrolled in a degree program at Hochschule RheinMain – University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSRM). You can also be funded as a graduate for an internship that takes place within one year of graduation. In this case, you must still be enrolled in your degree program at the time of application and be withdrawn at the start of the internship.
- You have already found an internship and have a firm commitment. Your internship position is in one of the participating countries (see above).
- The internship position is NOT an EU institution.
- Your internship will last at least 2 months = 60 days. The funding ends after a maximum of 12 months. In the case of a combination of remote work and on-site work, funding can only be provided for the physical presence phase in the host country.
- It must be a full-time internship, i.e. you should work approximately 40 hours/week and must not be taking courses at a university at the same time.
- The activities during the internship must be related to the content of your studies.
- You have sufficient knowledge of the working language (at least B1 level). No obligation to provide proof, but personal responsibility.
- Your complete application must be submitted to us at least two weeks before the start of the internship (see explanations on the application process)
- You may not apply for another EU scholarship at the same time as the ERASMUS scholarship (e.g. cannot be combined with a HAW.international scholarship from the DAAD).
- If you are a non-European national, please find out in good time whether you need a work permit in the country where you are doing your internship.
Please note that there is no legal entitlement to funding or a specific amount of funding!
The application is made via Mobility Online. Please register and create an account. You can access this account throughout the application process and during your semester abroad. Here you can see the status of your application and what you still need to submit.
You can apply for an internship on an ongoing basis, but you must already have been accepted for an internship and know the period. Once you have registered, please log in directly here with your login details .
Information on the processing of your data can be found here.
As part of your application, upload the following documents to the portal:
- A current enrollment certificate
- A freely written letter of motivation (approx. 1 page). Please explain why you would like to do this internship, why at this company/in this country in particular and what you hope to gain from it for your personal and academic career. How does the internship relate to your studies? Have you prepared yourself linguistically and culturally for this stay and if so, how? The letter can be written in German or English.
- The "Learning Agreement for Traineeships" form. You only need to fill in pages 1-2. This document is primarily about the tasks you will perform during your traineeship. Please make sure that all fields are completed. It will be signed by you, your internship organization (receiving organization) and your faculty (your International or Internship Coordinator for sending institution). It is sufficient if we have the document in digital form, so you can send it back and forth by email.
- The "Insurance declaration" form. You will need valid health, accident and liability insurance for the duration of your stay abroad. As a student enrolled at Hochschule RheinMain, you are covered by accident and liability insurance through the Studierendenwerk Frankfurt even when you are abroad, but not for your free time. We therefore strongly recommend that you take out additional insurance, as Hochschule RheinMain is not liable for you. You are free to choose your own provider. The DAAD(www.daad.de) offers a favorable group package that includes all three insurances.
Once we have received your documents in full, we will examine them and, if the decision is positive, we will send you a grant agreement detailing the funding period and amount.
Once you have signed the agreement, you will receive the first installment of your scholarship amounting to 80% of the total scholarship.
No later than four weeks after the end of your internship:
- Upload a copy of your internship certificate or the last part of the Learning Agreement to Mobility Online
- Complete an online questionnaire that you will receive from the EU Commission by email
- Upload a prose experience report (approx. 2-5 pages) to Mobility Online.
You will then receive the final installment amounting to 20% of the total scholarship.
There are no fixed deadlines, the Mobility online portal is permanently open for internship applications. You can apply for an scholarship as soon as you have been accepted to your internship. The documents you upload to the portal must be complete at least two weeks before the start of the internship. Unfortunately, it is not possible to apply for an internship retroactively.
- EU internship contract between university, company and student (Learning Agreement)
- Academic recognition of the successfully completed internship, depending on the case, through ECTS, in the Diploma Supplement or in the so-called Europass Mobility for graduates
- Support during the internship by one contact person at the home university and one at the company
- Financial support, depending on the destination country
- Special grants for students with chronic illnesses or disabilities
- Special grants for students who take their child/children abroad with them
- Special grants for employed students and first-time graduates
- Support with preparation (linguistic, organizational), including the opportunity to complete a free online language course in the working language
- Special subsidy for so-called green travel (no airplane or car)
Internship
The funding amounts and funding periods depend on the current budget situation. A table with the current funding amounts, special grants and travel allowances can be found here.
You can be funded via ERASMUS for a maximum of 12 months in each study phase, i.e. during your bachelor's degree, master's degree or doctorate, i.e. up to 36 months in total, subject to our available budget. This also includes the ERASMUS study grant. Funding as a graduate student is counted towards the funding period of the previous study cycle.
The minimum length of stay at a partner university is two months.
If you would like to extend your stay, please let us know at least one month in advance.
Sustainability and environmental protection
Logically, gaining experience abroad means living and traveling abroad for a longer period of time. After all, the best way to really immerse yourself in a culture is to spend time there and explore the environment. On the other hand, too much travel is bad for the climate.
Living in a climate-friendly way is one of the great challenges of our time. But you can also make sustainable decisions for your semester abroad. We would like to encourage you to look into environmentally friendly travel options, such as bus and train.
ERASMUS+ rewards you with a higher travel allowance for so-called green travel, i.e. if you travel the majority of the journey to or from your Internship by bus or train and do not travel by plane or car. If this makes one or more overnight stays necessary and you are therefore traveling longer, we will even extend your scholarship accordingly by up to six days (proof required).
You can contribute to environmental protection not only through your choice of transportation, but also through your behavior on site. You can find suggestions, for example, in the reports of other students at: https: //www.studieren-weltweit.de/inspirieren-lassen/hashtag/nachhaltigkeit/
