Visa/ Residence Permit
Students with EU citizenship do not require a visa to enter Germany.
Citizens of Australia, Israel, Japan, Canada, Korea Republic, New Zealand, Switzerland or the USA do not need to apply for a visa in advance, but will have to apply for a residence permit at the Immigration and Integration Office within three months of arrival.
All other students have to apply for a study visa at the German embassy/consulate in their home country. We will send you an official invitation letter for your visa application.
For the enrollment process please remember to bring:
- Passport/ID card
- One ID photo
- Proof of health insurance (European Health Insurance Card; Non-EU-students: please take out health insurance in Germany)
- Bank receipt for the payment of the semester fee (approx. EUR 250 including fee for the ‘Studentenwerk’ which provides the student dorms, cafeterias etc. and the student ticket which allows you to use regional public transportation in most parts of Hesse and some places in Rhineland-Palatinate free of charge)
All exchange students will enroll in Wiesbaden during our Welcome Day. If -for an important reason- you cannot come to the day of enrollment, please inform the International Office directly.
Please bring all documents with you to our Welcome and Orientation Day on September 12, 2019, so you will be able to enroll that day. All non-EU students will have the possibility to take out health insurance during this day.
Sufficient health insurance is compulsory for all students enrolled at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences.
For all EU-Citizens: please bring a copy of your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) and the original card or a provisional certificate along with you. The EHIC will be issued by your health insurance company. Turkish students will bring the form A/T 11 (Turkey and EU have an agreement for health insurance).
For all other students: health insurance can be arranged in Germany (approx. EUR 85/month). We strongly recommend taking out health insurance in Germany, as foreign health insurance policies have to fulfill certain requirements to be accepted in Germany.
Please be aware that travel insurance will not be accepted!
All students must declare their place of residence at the City Hall within two weeks after their arrival. Please register in the office of the town where you will be living during your stay at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences.
As a student you can often open a bank account free of charge by signing an agreement and presenting your passport and your student identity card.
