Seventy nine exchange students will attend the upcoming winter semester at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences (HSRM). On Wednesday, the International Office team welcomed the students from all over of the world at the Kurt-Schumacher-Ring Campus in Wiesbaden.

Augustina from England studies Graphic Design at Loughborough University: “I like German culture, the Christmas markets and the Oktoberfest," said the student enrolled in communication design at HSRM. For Lucas from the Universidade de São Paulo in Brazil, in addition to learning a new language, the university’s location was a decisive factor in his choice: “Germany is in the middle of Europe. From here, I can travel to all kinds of places in Europe,” says the business student. Taehun’s professors advised him to study abroad in Germany. The student from South Korea is studying architecture at Konkuk University in Seoul.

After the official welcome, the exchange students got the chance to get to know each other playing Backyard Game Olympics and having some culinary specialties from Hessen. They ended the day with a campus tour.

Blended Welcome Weeks

During HSRM’s blended welcome weeks, the exchange students can attend a series of on-site and online events that will make their start at the university and in Germany easier. The welcome program includes online info sessions on various topics, such as residency registration or Stud.IP. It also contains a presentation of the university and state library, other campus tours, intensive German courses and student-guided city tours.

“We offer an attractive welcome program as part of a university-wide welcoming culture. Well-informed and well-connected students are better prepared for the start of their studies. Meeting the other exchange students and contact persons at HSRM makes them feel more comfortable in their new environment,” says Judith Hayer from the International Office.
