Financial Services (dual)
What is it?
You would like to combine vocational training and university studies? Or you have already completed an apprenticeship, have gained professional experience and are ready to reach the next level?
The cooperative degree program in Financial Services (B.Sc.) is characterized by its modular and flexible offerings. You have three options to pursue your studies with a partner company as a strong supporter for learning on the job!
You will receive a foundational education in the fields of finance, data science, risk management, accounting, and controlling. Each semester, one module is replaced by a work phase at your partner company. You remain a full-time student, with study and work phases evenly balanced in this cooperative model.
You can choose between the following specializations:
- Specialization in banking, work-integrated (4 semesters)
- Specialization in insurance, apprenticeship-integrated (6 semesters)
- Specialization in insurance, work-integrated (4 semesters)
The apprenticeship-integrated specialization combines an apprenticeship as an insurance and financial services broker and a university degree – this means graduates obtain two degrees within three years: the Bachelor of Science degree and, following two additional examinations, a qualification issued by the IHK (German Chamber of Commerce).
The work-integrated specializations take into account previously completed apprenticeships and professional experience by granting credit for the first two semesters and are shortened to two years. The degree program is crowned with the Bachelor of Science degree.
What can I do with it?
After completing your degree, you’ll be a specialist for financial services, focusing on insurance or banking. You’ll be equipped to support management teams at insurance companies and banks and to become a manager yourself later on. The strong practical focus of the degree will make you sought after by insurers, banks, management consultancies, and accounting firms.
For degree-seeking students: detailed information on admission requirements, application deadlines, etc. can be found on the German page.
What our graduates say

The dual studies program was the ideal way for me to combine theory and practical experience and to facilitate my entry into professional life through practical lectures. The exchange with the professors was also enriching beyond the content - current industry topics and economic developments were discussed together. I was much better prepared for my master's degree in many areas.

The cooperative bachelor's degree in Financial Services was an ideal start to the insurance industry. Despite the cooperative orientation, I always had the feeling that I could enjoy a real student life with the associated study atmosphere. The newly added recognition of credits from the practical phases is a huge advantage for all cooperative students. I was able to apply the content of my studies directly.

In 2017, the Insurance & Banking degree program and its program director received an award for outstanding commitment to teaching, and a nomination for UNICUM’s 'Professor of the Year 2024/2025'. Additionally, the program was recognized as a 'talent incubator' by WiWi-Online in both 2012 and 2017.
