As part of the European COST Action project BetterCare, an interdisciplinary training school was held at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences from September 22 to 24, 2025 in cooperation between the Wiesbaden Institute for Healthcare Economics and Patient Safety (WiHelP) at Wiesbaden Business School and the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences, which focused entirely on safety in home care. The goal of the event was to jointly develop new ways to avoid possible errors by family caregivers - especially when administering medication.
The Training School brought together 34 international participants from 19 different countries, who worked intensively on the question of how care at home can be made safer. The focus was on typical sources of error in the medication process - from prescribing to storing and administering medication - as well as concrete solutions for informal caregivers.
Podcasts with tips for everyday life
A particular highlight of the week was the production of short podcasts, which were designed and recorded by the participants themselves. These are aimed directly at family caregivers and offer practical tips on how to avoid medication errors in everyday life. The podcasts show in an understandable way where risks can lurk in the process of administering medication and how these can be minimized through simple measures. (Publication to follow)
The successful implementation of the Training School was made possible by the close cooperation between the Wiesbaden Business School (WBS) and the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences at Hochschule RheinMain (HSRM)
