Numerous stakeholders from the worlds of politics, academia, business, and government gathered on Tuesday at the annual political reception hosted by Hochschule RheinMain – University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSRM). University President Prof. Dr. Eva Waller welcomed the guests at the university’s new TeachingLearningCenter on the Kurt-Schumacher-Ring Campus and stated: “As a university of applied sciences, we are continuously contributing to solutions for the technological, economic, and social transformations of the present and the future. We promote and strengthen diversity, equal opportunity, and an understanding of democracy. Through up-to-date, innovative, flexible, and practice-oriented degree programs and professional development, we empower students to become specialists and leaders, as well as to start their own businesses and take over family businesses. We conduct interdisciplinary and application-oriented research in continuous dialogue with businesses, civil society, and other research institutions. Our key focus areas include Architecture, urban and regional development, renewable energy, logistics and mobility, health and social services, as well as Engineering and information technology, including quantum technology.”
In his welcoming remarks, State Secretary for Science Christoph Degen praised the commitment of Hochschule RheinMain – University of Applied Sciences and Arts: “Hochschule RheinMain – University of Applied Sciences and Arts supports researchers in the early stages of their careers, drives forward a regional startup ecosystem, and advocates for democracy and equal opportunity. The tenth anniversary of Hesse’s doctoral authorization for research-intensive universities of applied sciences, which we are celebrating this year, is also a special milestone for Hochschule RheinMain – University of Applied Sciences and Arts: The first doctoral center for Social Work was established here in 2017. Since then, we have been writing a success story with the right to award doctoral degrees, in which Hochschule RheinMain – University of Applied Sciences and Arts has played a major role.”

Challenges such as the shortage of skilled workers and social cohesion can only be addressed together. Patrick Burghardt, mayor of Rüsselsheim am Main, also emphasized the close collaboration: “Hochschule RheinMain – University of Applied Sciences and Arts is one of the most important partners of the city of Rüsselsheim am Main. The Rüsselsheim Campus is of great importance for securing the location’s future as a driver of innovation, a research partner, and a source of skilled professionals. The close and trusting collaboration with the President’s Council, the Dean's Office at the Rüsselsheim Campus, and students is a key factor in this success. Together, we want to further leverage the existing potential—especially through the azare research center, which can provide important impetus for the energy transition and the transformation of our industrial location.”
The Potential of Corporate Mobility Management
Prof. Dr. Barbara Seegebarth, professor of Behavioral Science in Business at the Wiesbaden Business School of the HSRM, drew attention in her keynote address on “Corporate Mobility Management” to previously untapped potential for companies and public institutions from a behavioral science perspective. She explained how corporate Mobility Management can both contribute to climate protection and enhance the attractiveness of business locations. She also discussed the policy framework necessary to effectively promote the implementation of such measures.
2026 DAAD Prize for Anes Khaldi
At the annual political reception, Prof. Dr. Christian Schachtner, Vice-President for Academic Affairs and Sustainability at HSRM, presented the 2026 DAAD Award for outstanding achievements by international students to Anes Khaldi. Khaldi is pursuing a master’s degree program in Electrical Engineering (part-time) and Management at the Faculty of Engineering at HSRM. He had previously completed his bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Aeronautical Engineering at HSRM.
“Mr. Khaldi combines academic excellence with a sense of responsibility and personal commitment in a unique way. In doing so, he has not only successfully carved out his own path at our university but has also made it easier for others to get started. This makes him a role model—not only for other students but for our entire university community,” emphasized Prof. Dr. Schachtner in his laudatory speech.
