On October 17, 2025, the annual conference of the German-Ukrainian Lawyers' Association (DUJV) took place at Wiesbaden Business School. Under the guiding theme "Current legal issues in German-Ukrainian relations", experts from academia, politics and the judiciary discussed legal challenges and perspectives in the context of Ukraine's European integration process.
The event was opened with welcoming remarks by University President Professor Dr. Eva Waller and Dr. Rainer Birke, Chairman of the DUJV.
Dr. Wilhelm Wolf, President of the State Court of Hesse, opened the specialist program with a presentation on the structure, tasks and resilience of the Hessian state constitutional body, providing a practical insight into the work of constitutional jurisdiction at state level.
Versatile forum for academic exchange
In addition to topics such as legal adjustments in the course of Ukraine's possible accession to the EU and the development of Ukrainian constitutional law, the program also included issues of economic cooperation and international private law. In addition, Michael Gahler, Member of the European Parliament and foreign policy spokesperson for the EPP Group, gave a keynote speech on Ukraine's European prospects.
The conference offered a diverse forum for academic exchange and underlined the close cooperation between German and Ukrainian legal experts.
The evening before, participants had already given insights into their experiences of teaching and research under wartime conditions in a round table discussion - an exchange that impressively illustrated the connection between academia and lived reality.
