Registration for the thesis and, if applicable, the final examination
Registration for the thesis takes place within the preclusive time limits, which you can find in the schedule.
Together with the registration, you determine your preferences regarding the modules (subject areas) and the supervision of your thesis.
Procedure for all bachelor's and master's degree programs (incl. MIM)
To create the registration form and set your preferences online (via the Internet):
| 1. | First establish a VPN connection to the university network, then call up WBS Webservices |
| 2. | Select Thesis registration |
| 3. | Login with HDS user name and HDS password |
| 4. | Enter your date of birth and address and then click on the Continue button |
| 5. | Set your preferences: - first select the module in which you would prefer to write - put the supervisors in the preferred order if there is more than one - now continue accordingly with the module of your second choice, etc. |
| 6. | Once you have set all the required preferences, the Save details button appears |
| 7. | After saving, the registration form is displayed and you can check your details (to change your data or preferences, start the procedure from the beginning) |
| 8. | Print out the registration form and save it (e.g. as a PDF file that you can print out later if necessary) |
| 9. | Sign the printout and submit the original by the deadline (by post, hand it in at the ServiceCenter or drop it in the deadline mailbox at Bleichstr. 44) |
Please note
Your data is already recorded in a central database via the Internet. However, your registration is only valid once the printed registration form has been submitted to the Examinations Office:
- complete (all pages)
- with your signature
- within the deadline.
To meet the registration deadline, it is sufficient for the registration form to be postmarked by midnight on the last day of the registration period. From abroad, we recommend that you fax your registration in advance.
Incomplete, incorrect or untimely applications are not considered to have been duly submitted and will result in admission being refused.
Supporting documents to be attached and submitted later
As a rule, you do not need to enclose any further documents with the application form, such as a transcript of completed modules and graded course components, proof of examinations passed abroad, proof of internship, etc., as these documents are already available to the Examinations Office.
When you submit your thesis, please enclose these completed forms:
Assignment Procedure
Examination regulations stipulate only that the thesis topic and a thesis advisor will be assigned to you in a timely manner by the specified deadline. There is no provision for your involvement in this process.
Nevertheless, the Wiesbaden Business School department follows the practice of having you state your preferences at the time of thesis registration:
What topic would I prefer to write about, and with whom?
The department places great importance on your preferences. However, these must be reconciled with the department’s available capacity—so there is no guarantee that you will be assigned your first-choice combination of “topic and advisor.”
The exact assignment is handled by the respective degree programs.
We strive to assign as many students as possible to their stated first preference.
If these advisors’ supervision capacity is exhausted, students will be assigned to their subsequent preferences.
Different procedures are used within the degree programs (random selection, grade point average, etc.).
The procedure is optimized and ensures that no one can be placed in a better position without someone else being placed in a worse one.
The results of the assignment process are published in Stud.IP
- in June for topic assignments in the summer semester
- in December/January for topic assignments in the winter semester (depending on the degree program).
Details on the dates can be found in Stud.IP in the event “WBS - Interne Informationen”, "Dateien > Prüfungswesen > Abschlussarbeiten".
The thesis assignment takes place in July or January / February (depending on the degree program - for exact dates see: Dates and deadlines ).
Please do not contact your supervisor until then. To ensure that all students have an equal opportunity to work on their thesis, a topic may not be agreed until the assignment date.
For the thesis assignment, please use the form Protocol for thesis assignment for your degree program, which you can download in Stud.IP in the course WBS - Internal Information in the path Files > Examinations > Theses.

Degree programs BBA, BBL, BDBM, BGOe and BIB / BVF: Thesis admission and internship
At the time of thesis registration, the practical work placement (BPT) has often not yet been completed. Admission to the thesis is therefore pending. The deadline for admission is the day of the first assignment date. This means that the attendance part of the BPT must have been completed by this date. The minimum period of the BPT and the period of the thesis must not overlap. This does not affect a possible voluntary extension of the internship.
To ensure that admission to the thesis is effective, the Examination Office will check whether the BPT has been passed, failed or is pending before announcing the thesis grades.
| BPT passed with success | ⇒ Thesis admission effective without reservation |
| BPT not passed | ⇒ Thesis approval is withdrawn retroactively |
| BPT pass pending | ⇒ Thesis grade will not be published until clarification |
Calculation of the deadline
In accordance with all examination regulations in force at the faculty, the deadline is
- on the same day of the month if the processing time is calculated in months or
- the same day of the week in the case of a processing time measured in weeks
the same day of the week as the deadline.
This also applies if the deadline falls on a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday
(Section 31 (3) sentence 2 of the Administrative Procedure Act).
Outside the office hours of the ServiceCenter, also on Saturdays, Sundays or public holidays, the submission can be made by proper, timely posting in the deadline mailbox of the WBS (in front of the entrance Bleichstr. 44, Wiesbaden) or by timely posting (date of postmark).
Please note: the thesis must be submitted in triplicate.
The grades of the bachelor's and master's degree theses are published in QIS.
Please refer to the dates and deadlines for the publication dates.
To calculate your final grade, you will find an Excel file for your degree program in Stud.IP in the path: WBS - Internal Information > Files > Examinations > Final grade - Grade calculator
