What is an N.C.?
N.C. (lat. = Numerus Clausus) refers to a capacity-related admission restriction and determines the number of places available at university for certain degree programs. If more prospective students are interested in a degree program than there are places available, an admission restriction is placed on the respective degree program.
N.C. values in the upcoming procedure
N.C. values or threshold values for a procedure are not determined in advance. The limits are determined anew in each procedure based on the ratio of the number of available places at university and the number and personal requirements of the applicants. An admission limit expresses the grade (average grade of the higher education entrance qualification taking into account the second criterion) or how many standby semesters the last person admitted had.
N.C. values are always historical values. It is not possible to predict the threshold values of future admission procedures.
Limit values of past procedures
In the following, we explain how to understand the threshold values of past admission procedures:
For each degree program with restricted admission, the threshold values for the grade (of the university entrance qualification) and the waiting period are listed for the past semesters. All applications are entered on both admission lists in an allocation procedure with their individual values for grade and waiting period. The two values are not offset against each other, but are evaluated and processed independently of each other.
Admission values of the grade list
- A threshold grade or selection/HZB grade of 2.3 (2) lot means that all applications with a grade of at least 2.2 have been awarded a place at university. The grade of the last person admitted was 2.3, provided that at least 2 half-year waiting periods (also known as standby semesters) could be provided proof. Lot stands for lottery procedure and means the following: Not all applications with a grade of 2.3 and 2 waiting semesters were able to obtain a place at university - in the end, admission within this group was decided by lot.
- A limit value selection/HZB grade of 2.3 / 2.3 (2) means that all applicants with a selection grade (= the grade of the higher education entrance qualification (HZB) improved by a certain training (second criterion), if applicable) of at least 2.3 and a grade of at least 2.3 in the higher education entrance qualification and 2 waiting semesters were awarded a place at university.
Admission values of the waiting time list
The waiting period threshold of 8 (2.4) lots means that all applicants with a waiting period of at least 9 half-years have been awarded a place at university; with 8 half-years of waiting, those who could provide proof of a grade of at least 2.4 (last applicant admitted) have been awarded a place at university. Lot stands for lottery procedure and means the following: Not all applications with a waiting period of 8 semesters and a grade of 2.4 were able to obtain a study place - in the end, admission within this group had to be decided by lot.
