Vita

Matthias Narroschke received his Dipl.-Ing. degree in electrical engineering in 2001 (with distinction) and the Dr.-Ing. degree in 2008, both from the University of Hannover. From 2001 until 2007 he was Ober-Ingenieur and teaching assistant at the Institut fuer Informationsverarbeitung of the University of Hannover. In 2007 he joined the Panasonic R&D Center Germany in Langen and became Principal engineer. His responsibilities included video coding standardization activities and the development of future video coding schemes. In 2014 he became a manager for R&D at the VISCODA GmbH with responsibilities including image processing, automatic scene analysis and computer vision for automotive applications. Since February 2017 he is a Professor at the University of Applied Sciences in Wiesbaden, Germany, with a focus on video coding, video streaming, and video processing. Since 2008, he has also been serving as a guest lecturer at the University of Hannover for video coding, information theory, and source coding. In 2018, he has been appointed as an Honorary Professor at the Leibniz University of Hannover, Germany. He is named as inventor of more than 200 granted patents.

Dr. Narroschke is an active contributer to the Motion Picture Experts Group (MPEG) of ISO/IEC SC29, to the Video coding Experts Group (VCEG) of the ITU-T, and to joint teams thereof including the Joint Collaborative Team on Video Coding (JCT-VC) and the Joint Video Expert Team (JVET). His technology has been adopted into the international video coding standards High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) and Versatile Video Coding (VVC). Together with the JCT-VC he has received the 2017 Primetime Emmy Engineering Award for the development of the HEVC video coding standard.
