KHaSiMiR 21

The Hospital Study on Safety through Management of In-Hospital Risks 2021/22 (KHaSiMiR 21) looks at the implementation status of clinical risk management in hospitals and rehabilitation facilities in Germany.

With the Patients' Rights Act coming into force in February 2013 and the definition of minimum standards for clinical risk management (CRM) by the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA), the introduction of clinical risk management became mandatory for all hospitals in Germany authorised under § 108 SBG V. To support hospitals and rehabilitation clinics in the ongoing optimization of clinical risk management and the strategic orientation at a political level, the implementation must be evaluated on an ongoing basis.

In 2010 and 2015, the Institute for Patient Safety (IfPS) at the University of Bonn conducted a survey on the current implementation status in collaboration with the German Coalition for Patient Safety (APS).

Following on from these results, a modified nationwide survey was conducted in 2021/22 in collaboration with WiHelP and the German Hospital Institute (DKI) on the development status of clinical risk management in hospitals and rehabilitation clinics. Furthermore, the collected results were used in an additional qualitative analysis of ten participating clinics in order to identify support factors and barriers to the successful implementation of clinical risk management.
