Understanding Antisemitism

Due to the terrorist attacks on Israel and the subsequent war in Gaza, many people feel the need for context and exchange. The online training aims to provide background knowledge on dealing with antisemitism and racism – in order to constructively address both the current Middle East conflict and the social challenges associated with it.

The online training consists of two phases: Prior to the online workshop, in May, you will receive weekly videos (approximately 40 minutes each) for preparation, providing background information on the following topics: 1. History and present of antisemitism from antiquity to today, 2. Antisemitic aspects regarding Israel, 3. Criticism and conspiracy narratives related to antisemitism.

The online workshop on 27 May 2024, from 12:30 to 15:30, builds on these contents and offers the opportunity to engage intensively with current manifestations of antisemitism as well as with antisemitic codes and images in current debates. Working with concrete examples, you will learn to recognize and appropriately classify antisemitic images and narratives: How do I recognize statements that contain an antisemitic core but may use a form of “circumlocutory communication,” for example? What forms of reformulating traditional antisemitic narratives exist?

The speakers are Samuel Stern and Bijan Razavi from Bildungsstätte Anne Frank.

Date: Monday, 27 May 2024, 12:30 to 15:30 p.m.
