Award for Researchers in Quantum Software Engineering Research

At this year's Quantum Effects conference in Stuttgart, the Eclipse Qrisp project received an award

At this year’s Quantum Effects conference in Stuttgart, the Eclipse Qrisp project received an award—and so did Prof. Dr. Nikolay Tcholtchev, an expert in quantum software engineering at Hochschule RheinMain – University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSRM). The development team impressed the jury in the “Quantum Computing Software & Algorithms” category.

Prof. Dr. Nikolay Tcholtchev of HSRM plays a coordinating role in the Eclipse Qrisp open-source community and accepted the award in Stuttgart alongside other researchers. The computer science professor conducts research at HSRM and internationally in the field of quantum software and the transition to post-quantum cryptography—that is, the use of encryption methods that, even under current assumptions about quantum computers, cannot be cracked.

Eclipse Qrisp, an open-source framework initiated by Fraunhofer FOKUS, enables Computer Science researchers to write complex quantum algorithms using an easy-to-learn, modern syntax. This allows companies to efficiently develop and test quantum algorithms and make them available for future applications.

The Quantum Effects Award

The award specifically recognizes innovations that bridge the classical and quantum worlds, are applied across various industries, enable new services, and open up new perspectives. At Quantum Effects 2026, partial solutions from the quantum-mechanical fields of sensor technology, communication, computing, and security were honored.
