Language exchange at Wiesbaden Business School:

While many of our international partnerships bring numerous students to Wiesbaden Business School for full exchange semesters, there are also other exciting short-term opportunities to connect our campus, the city and the surrounding area. Whether it's a lack of time or resources or you're simply not ready to spend a full semester abroad, our language exchange program could be the perfect fit.

This immersive experience will not only improve your German language skills but will also allow you to explore the local culture and get your first taste of Wiesbaden.

A group of Japanese students from our partner university in Kagawa recently took part in just such an opportunity - and here's what they experienced:

  • Intensive German language course:
Whether you're a beginner or want to improve your current skills, our program will help you to deepen your knowledge. But it's not just about textbooks and grammar. It's about learning by doing and practicing your German in an authentic everyday environment with native speakers. Be ready to take your conversations outside of the classroom!
  • Explore Wiesbaden and beyond:
With Wiesbaden's central location, Germany's rich history and breathtaking landscapes are right at your doorstep. As well as discovering the charm of Wiesbaden, students can visit nearby UNESCO World Heritage towns on the Rhine such as Rüdesheim or Eltville. You can also take longer day trips to iconic cities such as Heidelberg, where fairytale castles meet student flair. Or Frankfurt, just around the corner, to experience the bustling financial center and home of Europe's Central Bank. It's a chance to experience life the German way, guided by locals who know the hidden gems.
  • A taste of tradition
Cultural immersion doesn't stop at state museums and monuments - it's in the everyday moments. Whether it's chatting to a friendly baker, picking up fresh produce at a farmer's market or visiting local stores, you'll experience authentic slices of German life! Get-togethers are often part of the program, offering a perfect opportunity to try out a hearty schnitzel or regional specialties such as Riesling-based dishes. Don't be surprised if you leave with a new favorite recipe to take home!

Short-term doesn't mean short-lasting. Many students make international connections that last well beyond the program. Whether it's bonding over a shared meal, or sharing thoughts on a group hike, the connections made here often inspire students to return for a full exchange semester - or to welcome new friends to their home country! For some, this program becomes the first step on a longer global journey

A fresh perspective - an interview with a current exchange student (Hien)

What is it really like to study abroad in Wiesbaden? We spoke to one of our current exchange students, Hien from Vietnam, to find out what drew her to Wiesbaden Business School, how she's finding life in Germany so far, whether her expectations have been met, and what advice she has for future students. From academic inspiration to everyday moments - here's her insight.

1.what made you choose Wiesbaden - a city that isn't perhaps the most famous in Germany - as the place to start your exchange journey and how did Wiesbaden Business School arouse your interest?

The main reasons that made it clear to me that I wanted to spend my exchange year at Wiesbaden Business School were the passionate teachers, Wiesbaden's location, the people here and of course a suitable scholarship.

After attending the Autumn School on European Integration, I was really impressed by the dedication of the professors. Their commitment, passion and support made me feel confident that this was a place where I could grow academically and professionally.

I was fortunate to receive the Richard Müller Scholarship, which helped to cover my living expenses and made this experience more accessible.

Also, Wiesbaden is close to Frankfurt - the financial center of Germany - which is perfect for a finance student like me! It opens doors for networking, internships, and future career steps.

Finally, what really makes this place special are the people. Everyone here is so warm and kind - some even take the time to help you practice your German in everyday situations, which I find incredibly encouraging and heartwarming.

2.before arriving in Wiesbaden, what were your expectations about studying and living here - both at our university and in Germany in general?

Like some stereotypes imply, I expected people to be cold and arrogant which is completely wrong! In the first 2 weeks, I have made so many stories, friends and new connections in many corners of Wiesbaden and beyond.

3.now that you've spent a few weeks here in Wiesbaden, how are you settling in? What has surprised you the most about life here and at the university?

I'm really grateful that I chose Wiesbaden-it has made settling in so much easier. Whenever I need help with paperwork or anything practical, my buddy or roommate is always there for me.

The city itself is so underrated and beautiful! I have a friend from Frankfurt who actually said that she wished Frankfurt had the same charm and atmosphere. She described Wiesbaden as colorful and vibrant. What can I say, the architecture and the people here are just lovely!

What surprised me most is how open and opinionated the students are during class discussions. They freely share their thoughts and the professors really listen and engage with them. It's such a contrast to my home university, where students usually only speak when asked directly.

4.looking ahead, what are you hoping to get out of your time in Wiesbaden - especially academically but also personal goals and new experiences you might want to make?

For students like me who want to pursue a career in investment and macroeconomics, it's important to build a strong foundation in both areas. I hope to deepen my knowledge through engaging discussions with professors and classmates from diverse backgrounds. I also want to sharpen my research skills and learn to approach economic and financial issues more critically and creatively.

In addition, I believe that making meaningful connections is crucial if you want to advance in your career. Being in an international environment like Wiesbaden gives me the opportunity to connect with people who can inspire, challenge, and support me on this journey.
